Evaluation of Counselling Programmes

This book is based on a case study of Moi University, with an aim of evaluating the effectiveness of counselling in public universities in Kenya. The study employed quantitative research methods. Four research areas were looked into namely: orientation and adaptive services; personal and psychological counselling; educational counselling; and career and vocational counselling. The author established that counselling offices were inappropriately located with inadequate counselling hours and few counsellors; there lacked counselling information resource centre, paraprofessionals for students with special needs, and awareness of the counselling services. Thus, the author recommends that: awareness of counselling services be enhanced; more counsellors to be recruited to make up for the low counsellor-student ratio; paraprofessionals for students with special needs to be recruited; location of the counselling offices to be reconsidered to enhance privacy and confidentiality; and an ongoing evaluation of the counselling programmes be done. This book is recommended for counsellors, education policy makers and counselling educators.

Health issues are covered in adult education primers, post-literacy and continuing education materials, training programmes, extension activities of government and non-government agencies, mass media etc. Neo-literates are the major beneficiaries of continuing education programme and they are provided with health knowledge on various aspects through different activities of continuing education workers i.e., preraks. To what extent the preraks are possessing health awareness on different issues can be noticed only through proper studies. The present study focuses its attention on health awareness among preraks in the areas of communicable and non-communicable diseases, nutrition, mother and child care in order to suggest suitable measures.

Competency and Performance of Inservice Trained Teachers

This book focus the competency and performance of in-service trained teachers in Pakistan. The performance of two hundred and eighty pre-service and in-service trained teachers in Pakistan was observed through observation checklist in a period of six months. Eight teaching competency of in-service trained teachers i.e. Set Induction, Presentation, Effective Questioning, Listening, Pupil reinforcement, Teachers’ liveliness, Closing of lesson and Planning were included in the observation checklist and were observed by the researcher. The performance of the in-service trained teachers was found comparatively better. The book is useful for different educational institutions responsible for pre-service and in-service training and their induction, working teachers, researchers and heads of educational institutions. Different national and international agencies working for the quality education at primary level and particularly for different in-service teachers training programs can also get benefits from this book.

This study investigated whether teachers in higher education in Lebanon were using sufficient technology and following active-learning pedagogical strategies in the statistics classes in the Lebanese University. The project focused on the pedagogy practices in the statistics classrooms such as interactive discussions and group projects. Usage of technology in the class and the technological equipment integrated in the statistics course such as computer, Liquid Crystal Display projectors, Internet, Multimedia and calculators were investigated.
